The Polgoon story is one of determination and passionate hard work, as we were quickly able to deduce from talking to the owners, John and Kim Coulson. Having left their jobs as fish merchants back in 2002, this dynamic husband and wife team bought a derelict plot of land (previously a flower farm). With advice from local viticulture guru, Bob Lindo (of Camel Valley), a selection of vines were planted. Having initially dealt with weather issues and a succession of poor harvests, their determination has paid off in the form of success in both wine and cider production.
Since winning the prestigious award of ‘best rose in the UK’ (after their first harvest!) the awards have come flooding in for the Coulson Family. As well as a range of delicious still and sparkling wine, they now produce a variety of popular Cornish Ciders, grown in the apple trees adjacent to the vines.
